EVP and President, North America, General Motors Corporation
An Englishman who began his career with General Motors in 1979, Alan Batey got his start as a mechanical engineering apprentice with Vauxhall in the United Kingdom. Throughout his career he has held senior management positions in the U.K., Korea, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. Prior to joining Chevrolet in 2010, Batey served as Chairman and Managing Director, GM Holden Ltd. Operations in Australia and New Zealand. Along with former GM International Operations and GM Europe president Nick Reilly, Batey is credited with transforming the bankrupt Daewoo business into a successful global hub for Chevrolet. In July 2012 while holding the title of vice president of U.S. and Service, Batey was named the global chief marketing officer on an interim basis following the unexpected departure of Joel Ewanick. One year later he acquired a new title, SVP, Global Chevrolet and Manager, U.S. Sales, Service and Marketing, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC. Following Mark Reuss’s appointment as EVP, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain, in December 2013 General Motors replaced him with Batey as Executive Vice President and President, North America.
