An internationally known businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Adelson is Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, a Paradise, Nevada-based owner and operator of resorts in the United States and Asia such as The Venetian and The Palazzo on the Las Vegas Strip and the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Adelson's business career spans more than six decades and has included creating and developing to maturity more than 50 different companies, including the COMDEX trade show for the computer industry. A college dropout, he worked as a Mortgage Broker, Investment Adviser and Financial Consultant before founding the Las Vegas Sands Corporation in 1989. In Las Vegas Adelson is widely credited for helping transform the city from a gaming-centric regional location into the leading convention and exhibition city in the United States. And in Macao, Adelson's vision to recreate the Las Vegas Strip was originally panned by observers, but since opening The Venetian Macao on the Cotai Strip in 2007, his development plans have materialized, with several more successful properties opening in recent years. Adelson is one of the world's richest men; he and his wife personally gave more than $100 million to conservative candidates during the last election cycle, standing out as the biggest backers of former House speaker Newt Gingrich's campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Adelson's super PACs also were major backers of Mitt Romney's presidential bid.
