Biographical Summary
Louisiana native Nick Akins oversees AEP's utilities, transmission, generation, commercial operations and OVEC (Ohio Valley Electric Corporation) /IKEC (Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation) organizations. He is responsible for all electricity generation activities at AEP, which provides power to more than 5 million customers in 11 states, inluding the engineering, construction and operations of fossil- and hydro-power generation, nuclear generation, fuels procurement, emissions and logistics and other initiatives. He also is responsible for the commercial operations, marketing and trading functions of the company. Akins has spent nearly three decades in the industry, working for AEP and Central and South West Corp., a Dallas-based utility that AEP bought in 2000. He was named president in early 2011 and became CEO in November 2011. AEP owns the largest power transmission system in the country and is one of the nation's largest generators of electricity.
