Deborah Derby's career path includes time spent with Goldman Sachs as a financial analyst, a stint as an attorney specializing in employment law, and eight years at the Whirlpool Corporation in various human resources roles. She joined Toys"R"Us in 2000 and spent the ensuing decade in various leadership roles with the organization. She was named the President of Babies"R"Us in 2006 after the Company was taken private. Derby said that as a mother herself, she could relate to how overwhelmed the expectant mothers who shopped there could be, and made it a point "to make the transition as easy as possible for parents" through a broad assortment of product offerings and knowledgeable employees, able to guide parents to the products that best fit their lifestyles. She was named EVP and Chief Administrative Officer in 2009 and was most recently responsible for Strategic Planning and Property Development, including integrated, Express and Outlet store formats across North America. She also oversaw the Company's retail and online businesses in Canada and Australia. In early 2012 the company announced Derby's departure in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which said she was terminated without cause. A company spokeswoman said that Toys "R" Us does not plan to replace Derby.
