Biographical Summary
A Mississippi native and Harvard graduate, Adkerson took an unusual path into the mining industry. He worked for the Securities and Exchange Commission after college and then jumped to accounting firm Arthur Anderson, where he rose to become head of worldwide oil and gas. He joined the finance department of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold in 1989 and has been CEO of the world's largest publicly-traded copper and gold producer since 2003.
