Biographical Summary

At age 8, Smith saw his first auto race; he's been hooked ever since. The business of cars–whether it be racing them or selling them–has been his life's work. In 1997 he founded Sonic Automotive–today among the largest automotive retailers in the United States. Smith is also the controlling stockholder of Speedway Motorsports, a public company that owns and operates seven NASCAR racetracks, from New Hampshire to Las Vegas.
