Biographical Summary
Madsen came to the restaurant business late in his career. He started out with General Mills in 1980 and was VP of marketing when he left to join James River in 1993, where he headed its Dixie paper goods division for four years before changing course and taking a job as executive VP of marketing at Olive Garden. Madsen was named president of Olive Garden in 2002 and president and COO of parent company Darden Restaurants in 2004, where he's now repositioning its portfolio of restaurants to weather a slowdown in casual dining.
