Winn-Dixie Stores Inc.
Last Updated: 01/17/2012

Biographical Summary

Successfully navigating the company through bankruptcy, layoffs, store closures and a series of hurricanes, Lynch is credited with steering Winn-Dixie back to market solvency. A charismatic veteran supermarket executive who previously served as the CEO of rival Albertson's, Lynch has helped pay down debt while taking the company's stores through major remodels. In December 2011 the company announced an ambitious plan to merge with grocery chain BI-LO in a $560 million deal that will take the company private. He is known to inspect and swap tips with workers in every one of his chain's 522 stores. "In this business everything happens with the people in the stores," he says. In January 2012 Lynch said he will resign from Winn-Dixie following the completion of its planned merger with Bi-Lo.
