Biographical Summary
On the last day of 2008, Clarke was named Vice Chairman of Global Operations after the retirement of Mike Gannon. This position is in addition to his role as head of Dell's Technology Group. He joined Dell in 1987 as a quality engineer, and has served in a variety of engineering and management roles. Under his leadership, all three businesses achieved No. 1 worldwide share positions. The company is in an entirely different position as of 2011 however, and is battling to regain lost market share with both business and consumers as well as boost its business in higher-margin services and equipment, especially in the data center and cloud computing markets.
