Executive Profiles
W. James (Jim) McNerney, Jr.
Chairman, President, and CEO,
Boeing Company
Last Updated: 02/05/2012
Biographical Summary
A 19-year veteran of GE and "disciple" of legendary former GE CEO Jack Welch, McNerney restored stability, record profits, and ethics to Boeing. The company was reeling from executive scandals and poor performance when he took the helm in 2005. The first CEO from outside the company since World War II, McNerney is a self-described "aviation geek" who peers say is "low key" and "proper." McNerney and Boeing have been under tremendous pressure from a three-year production delay on the much-anticipated Dreamliner 787 but in September 2011 the first plane was finally delivered to Nippon Airways to much fanfare.
