James F. (Jim) Albaugh
Former EVP, Boeing Company
Last Updated: 10/11/2012

Biographical Summary

Washington native Albaugh is a rocket scientist and a shrewd turnaround specialist who made a name for himself in the early 1990s, when he was appointed the fix-it man for Rocketdyne, a Boeing division that built rocket engines. Rocketdyne's factory was over budget so Albaugh reorganized the assembly line and trained workers to improve efficiency. His success caught the attention of his superiors and led to his rapid rise through the ranks of the company's space and defense division. As the head of Boeing's commercial airplane division from 2009 to 2012, Albaugh found himself on the cutting edge of the international air transport industry leading 60,000 employees and a budget of more than $30 billion. Albaugh retired Oct. 1, 2012. Leadership of the Commercial Airplanes business has been turned over to Raymond L. Conner, a former aircraft mechanic who rose to become Boeing's top salesman.
