A Harvard-trained lawyer, Kindler started his career working stints at the FCC, US Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court before moving to the private sector, taking a position in GE's legal department. His most recent career moves have taken him from fast food to pharmaceuticals; he spent 6 years at McDonald's Corporation before landing at Pfizer in 2002 as General Counsel. His 2006 promotion to CEO was a surprise to many industry watchers, who saw him as an outsider; but it was also a wake-up call to the growing dominance of legal issues in the pharmaceutical industry.
