Gilbert L. (Gil) Hoffman
VP and CIO, Mercy
For most people, taking a job at a new company is a part of life, but for Gilbert Hoffman this is something he hadn't done for nearly 40 years. Hoffman began working for Fenton, MO-based Maritz in 1973 in the Data Processing and Computer Operations Division and continued to hold a variety of IT positions at the company while achieving his BS in Information Management in 1990 and then his Masters in Computer Resource and Information Management in 1993. Hoffman eventually worked his way into leadership positions, becoming the company's first CIO in 1998 and holding the position for over a decade. Under Hoffman's leadership, Maritz was named by InformationWeek for 12 consecutive years as one of the nation's Top 500 Most Innovative Companies through effective use of technology, and was in ComputerWorld's 2011 list of top 100 places to work in IT. Hoffman was honored by ComputerWorld in 2007 as one of the top 100 CIOs in the US. In November of 2012, Hoffman finally made a change, leaving Maritz to join the $4.5 billion Mercy health-care organization as its VP and CIO.
